Since 1995, all kinds of organic pickled vegetables have been produced in Otterndorf on the Lower Elbe. Where possible, raw materials are sourced from the immediate vicinity, e.g., through Bioland Schleswig-Holstein. In 2006, the company added its own 92 ha of Bioland-certified farmland near the production facility. The company is now BCS and IFS certified and produces organically grown products under the Marschland brand for natural food retailers .Imported items such as pineapple, tropical fruit cocktail, and sour cherries now complement local organic products such as pickled cucumbers, sauerkraut, beets, red cabbage, celery, and pumpkin. The lactic acid-fermented fresh sauerkraut is particularly popular; it is freshly cut between October and Easter and packaged in cans, jars, and foil bags. |
