Picking lettuce seeds

Lettuce is best sown in a shallow dish with very fine soil. Make a shallow groove with a stick and scatter the seeds into it. Make sure you spread them out as evenly as possible. Now cover them very thinly with soil and keep them moist throughout until the leaves sprout. Once the plants have a few larger leaves, carefully plant them in your bed or in a flower box with a (large) ruler between them. You will soon be able to harvest lettuce leaf by leaf from the outside in.
