Canned fish from sustainable coastal fisheries
The Pérez Lafuente family has been dedicated to the production of canned seafood for more than 80 years and is a pioneer in the processing and marketing of seafood from the saltwater estuaries of Galicia. The factory is located in Vilanova de Arousa, a small town directly on the Galician Atlantic coast in the northwest of the Iberian Peninsula. This coastal region is known for its abundance of fish and seafood—ideal conditions for maximum freshness and the highest quality. The name under which Pérez Lafuente markets its products, “Pan do Mar” (Bread of the Sea), accurately reflects the company’s history and work philosophy: production based on the sensible, sustainable use of marine resources.
All “Pan do Mar” brand products that we offer are produced according to the following criteria:
Fishing is conducted using shallow-draft vessels (coastal fishing) by long-established fishing families who employ traditional methods and do not overexploit natural resources. These fishermen always return to their home port, where the catch is inspected and registered by the authorities. Catch quotas, fish sizes, and fishing methods are regulated and monitored by the relevant authorities. During closed seasons, when fishing is prohibited to allow stocks to recover, fishermen are not permitted to leave their home port. Controlled fishing near the coast allows fish populations far out in the oceans to live and reproduce undisturbed, while supplying coastal regions with fish without causing stock depletion. The entire fishing and production chain is traceable and certified. Promotion of traditional coastal fishing.
These high quality standards also apply to the selection of ingredients used: cold-pressed olive oils, vegetables, spices, vinegar, and wines for the sauces—all from Spanish organic farms, certified by BCS Öko-Garantie (Nuremberg).
