Sage originally comes from the Mediterranean region and was valued as a medicinal plant in ancient times. Nowadays it is cultivated in various climate zones. From Europe to North America and Asia.
Sage has an intense flavour and a slightly bitter taste.
It has a very aromatic scent and the essential oils are found in the glandular scales and glandular hairs. The leaves and flowers can be eaten raw or cooked.

It is rich in vitamin K, B9 and beta-carotene. It is also characterised by its iron, calcium, magnesium and potassium content.

To store sage correctly, it should first be dried. Then place it in an airtight container and store it in a cool, dry and dark place, e.g. in the spice cupboard.
