Watermelon

The watermelon originally comes from Africa. In the 7th century it was cultivated in India and by the 10th century it had reached China. The melon then spread to Europe in the 17th century.
Strictly speaking, the watermelon, like all melons, is a vegetable. Watermelons develop their full flavour when ripe, the sugar content is then optimal and the flesh has a good consistency with a corresponding sweetness that becomes more concentrated towards the middle.

Melons contain a lot of vitamin A, B5, E as well as potassium, magnesium, iron, zinc, iodine, citrulline and lycopene.

Whole watermelons can be stored at room temperature for one to two weeks. Cut melons should be covered with cling film to prevent them from drying out and eaten after two days at the latest. It is much better to keep melons in the fridge.
