Mushrooms

Fungi (also known as Fungi or Mycobionta) are living organisms with cell nuclei - so-called eukaryotes. With over 100,000 species, this is a very diverse group.

But are fungi plants or animals?
Neither! In addition to plants and animals, fungi form their own large kingdom of eukaryotes.

Mushrooms are not only important to us as a tasty and healthy source of food, they are also used in medicine - for example, the antibiotic penicillin is produced from mushrooms.
