Asparagus originally comes from Central and Southern Europe, North Africa and the Middle East. The Chinese and Egyptians used asparagus over 4000 to 5000 years ago. It gets its green colour from the fact that it grows above ground and thus forms the colouring agent chlorophyll.
Its flavour is aromatic, tangy and hearty.  

It contains vitamins A, B, C, E and K as well as biotin, folic acid, magnesium, iron, copper, potassium and calcium.

Green asparagus is at its most patient when it is kept upright in a water bath. The optimum storage temperature is +0.5 to 2 degrees C and very high humidity, so it will keep for a few days.
