Avocado

Avocados originally come from southern Mexico and were cultivated by the Aztecs. Like so many other foods, Spanish explorers brought them to Europe for the first time in the 16th century. Today, avocados are produced in California, South Africa, Chile, Peru, Australia and southern Spain, among other places.
Avocados have a mild, nutty flavour and a creamy, buttery consistency that varies depending on how ripe they are.

They contain vitamins B, E and K, as well as potassium, magnesium and iron.

Hard avocados should be wrapped in newspaper to ripen. Ripe avocados can be stored in the refrigerator for several days without any problems.
