The fig originally comes from Asia Minor and is one of the oldest useful plants. It has been cultivated throughout the Mediterranean region since ancient times. Nowadays they can be found in almost all countries, with Turkey, Italy, Greece, Spain, Mexico, Portugal, Algeria and parts of South Africa being among the countries with the highest production.

They contain vitamins A, B1, B2, B3, B5, B6, B9 as well as phosphorus, iron, potassium and calcium.

Fresh figs should always be stored in the fridge, where they will keep for between 3 and 5 days.
