Grapefruit

The grapefruit is originally a cross between a pomelo and an orange. It was probably discovered on the island of Barbados in the 18th century and has since spread to many subtropical countries, especially the USA and South Africa.
The round fruit has a yellow, reddish skin and its interior is divided into segments that are fused together, making them quite difficult to separate.
Depending on the variety, the flesh is light yellow to red in colour and tastes sweet, sour or bitter.

Grapefruit contains vitamins B, D and K, as well as potassium, calcium and magnesium.

Grapefruit can be stored at room temperature for about a week, or in the refrigerator for up to four weeks.
