In Pevestorf in the Wendland region, more than 60 different ingredients are processed into over 200 products. The product range extends from classic fruit and vegetable juices to BioZisch lemonades, kombuchas and water kefirs, shots, and hot beverages, all the way to plant-based drinks.

But Voelkel products aren’t just meant to taste good—they’re also meant to do good. Since 2011, Voelkel GmbH has been under responsible ownership and is owned by two foundations. The foundations’ bylaws stipulate that 90 percent of the company’s profits are reinvested in the business, while 10 percent go toward environmental, cultural, and social projects.

It all began back in 1919 with a dream: Margret and Karl Voelkel settled in the Wendland region to live self-determined lives. They farmed a plot of land and used a mobile press to extract juice from their neighbors’ orchard trees. Today, Voelkel is Germany’s largest all-organic juice producer. Boris, Jacob, and Jurek Voelkel are the fourth generation to run the family business, guided by solidarity rather than cutthroat competition.
