Gegründet wurde der landwirtschaftliche Betrieb im Saarland bereits 1984 als echter Bio-Pionier. Das Gründerpaar Dipl.Ing.int.agr. Gerhard und Monika Kempf begannen mit einer Milchziegenhaltung, Mutterkuh-Herde, Gemüsebau und Ackerbau. Heute bewirtschaftet der junge Landwirt Martin Stoll die Landwirtschaft mit der Tierhaltung. Familie Kempf  kümmert sich um die Verarbeitung und Vermarktung der Martinshof-Produkte. Dabei legen sie großen Wert auf die transparente Verarbeitung von ausschließlich Bioland-Ware und arbeiten mit vielen regionalen Erzeugern zusammen. Die Produktion vor Ort mit den eigenen Teams bietet eine große Zuverlässigkeit an Qualität und Frische. 
Mit ca. 100 Mitarbeiter*innen betreiben sie auf dem gewachsenen Hof im Ostertal die Bioland-Metzgerei, die Bioland-Käserei, den Lieferservice "Biobus" , den onlinehandel "bio vom Bauernhof" und die 2 Verkaufstellen. Diese sind ein großes Naturkostgeschäft "Martinshof Stadtladen" im Herzen der Hauptstadt Saarbrücken und ein kleinerer "Martinshof Hofladen" in St. Wendel.  Die Martinshof-Produkte findet man in vielen Naturkostgeschäften,  in manchen Globus-und Edeka Märkten und als französische Marke "ferme du bio" in Bioläden in Frankreich.
