Sugar snap peas, German harvest

The first finds of peas were discovered from around 8000 BC in the Mediterranean and the Near East. The proportion of pulses in Germany increased from around 1800 BC. It was not until the 17th century that peas were cultivated and eaten unripe and green. However, the sugar snap pea with an edible pod was not cultivated until the 19th century. China, India and Peru, as well as France and the Netherlands, are among the most important countries for growing peas. Even in Germany there is small-scale seasonal cultivation.

Sugar snap peas contain vitamins C and K as well as magnesium, potassium and folic acid.

If sugar snap peas are stored at room temperature, they should be processed within the next 2 hours, as they are sensitive to temperature. They will keep for 3 to 5 days in the vegetable drawer of the fridge.
