Our Philosophy
We are fortunate to live on the most wonderful, vibrant planet in our solar system rich in air, water, earth, and life in every conceivable form.
When we observe the current zeitgeist, a deeper question arises: Can we even begin to grasp let alone understand the abundance of this Earth and this life? How responsibly do we treat the
abundance of life on Planet Earth in the form of plants, animals, and humans? Our oceans and rivers, in particular, are so rich and wonderful, offering countless opportunities for life to
countless animal species.
Alaska is regarded worldwide as a model for perfect sustainable fisheries management. Since 1959, Alaska s constitution has prohibited fish farms and stipulates that“fish (…) shall be
utilized, developed, and preserved in accordance with the principle of sustainable yield in order to sustainably protect stocks for future generations. This approach involves
significant efforts to protect marine habitats by restricting fishing and other human activities in the affected areas, either entirely or in part. Alaska has designated many thousands of
square miles as marine protected areas and, as a general rule, allows only very limited fishing of forage fish such as herring, ensuring that wild salmon and halibut, for example, have an
abundant food supply. Thanks to all these efforts, Alaska s salmon still return to their spawning grounds in rivers and streams, just as they have for thousands of years. With this miracle
of nature which humans still cannot explain a piece of culinary cultural history continues to swim in the oceans and rivers of our globe to this day.
Our Company
Youkon Wild Salmon is aware of its special responsibility as a bridge between nature, sustainable fishing, and the consumer the Youkon salmon lover and stands for absolute harmony with
nature and the responsible use of available resources.
This begins with the fact that we not only know a great deal about salmon, but also about the people whose livelihood depends on bringing the king of fish from the wild, ice-cold waters off
the coast of Alaska. People like the O’Connors, who have been catching salmon for generations while ensuring that their catch always remains in proper proportion to the natural population.
This direct connection one might even say on a family basis between Youkon Wild Salmon and the fish and the fishermen, the land and the people may well be one of the most fundamental
differences between our company and others.
Be that as it may, the philosophy of Youkon Wild Salmon is tangible. And more than that: it can be experienced because it s edible. It is passed on unfiltered, package by package, to wild
salmon lovers; it captivates with its vibrant red color; it smells; it tastes. And that s a good thing. Because, to paraphrase a well-known saying, we maintain: Brand loyalty goes through
the stomach. A consumer who has simply through their taste buds experienced our philosophy, the history of Youkon Wild Salmon, and the tangible connection to Alaska s wild nature will
immediately understand it, embrace it, and share it with others. And they ll buy it again.
