The Boskoop (also known as “Red Boskoop” or “Schöner von Boskoop”) is an old apple variety that was discovered around 1856 in Boskoop (Netherlands) by breeder K.J.W. Ottolander as a chance
seedling. Just seven years later, it had already become widespread in Germany as well.
This variety is characterized by its robust, slightly tart flavor, accompanied by a subtle spiciness. The Boskoop is particularly prized by lovers of tart fruits and for use in
cooking.
The flesh is firm, coarse-grained, and juicy. The skin is thick, usually greenish-yellow, and often has a reddish or brownish tinge.
